Simulation of a floating solar farm in waves with a novel sun-tracking system

Abstract The awareness of the energy and climate crisis has accelerated development renewable sources. Photovoltaic (PV) solar power plants harvest clean convert it to electricity, which will be one most promising alternatives industry in context a low-carbon society. Due its low density, traditional deployment PV systems on land or inland rivers requires much space. Therefore, industries are increasingly interested expanding offshore Floating PhotoVoltaics (FPV) oceans, where FPV less influence marine environment does not occupy precious space for resources human activities. This study performs hydrodynamics-based structural response analysis novel system OpenFOAM. wave-proof platform is newly designed this work, integrated breakwater technologies sustain system’s survivability harsh ocean-wave environments. Firstly, rational mooring types FPVs installed close island studied considering seabed effects. Subsequently, extensive parametric studies have been conducted determine design strategy mitigation wave impact. Several potential effects proposed platforms hydrodynamics coastal sea evaluated first time.
